Minghelli only translated two plays, from French to Italian, "per sola dilettazione" (preface to L'Alcibiade).
In his prefaces, Minghelli explains his choice of dismissing a translation in prose in favour of a translation in verse: notwithstanding the struggle to "smozzicare i sensi, troncare i versi" (preface to Cinna) Minghelli finds free verse better to maintain the general harmony of the text. Minghelli's translations are nevertheless considered close to the originals.
