Career

Following his father, he started a military career at the age of 16 as an officer in the Ferson regiment, before becoming captain in the Bouillon regiment. He left the army in 1757 and retired to the countryside to devote himself to agriculture. He returned the the army later and in 1789 was lieutenant-colonel in the Duke of Bouillon's military household, and then captain of a company of veterans.

He was member of the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Science
