Education

There is no information about the kind of education Panaiotti Palli received in Ioannina. However,  his command of Ancient Greek, Latin and French and the fact that he insisted on educating his children (both male and female) can lead us to believe he was well educated.



Career

He was a very successful merchant with political influence. He became a permanent member of the Chamber of Commerce of Livorno and came to be elected, in 1830 and in 1839, governor of the Greek community. When, in 1833, Greece became a sovereign state, he was appointed Consul General of the Hellenic Kingdom in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and in the Duchy of Lucca, a post he held until his death, ten years later, and in which he was replaced by his son Michele.

Panaiotti Palli's translations were done with the goal to "enrich the Italian republic of letters" as he states in his introduction of Lucian's works. He also considered translation as a type of exercise. It seems that for this reason he translated more works from Ancient Greek into Italian, which he never published.
