Bergera graduated in both laws at the Royal Academy of Turin in 1763.
Career

Bergera accumulated a series of military titles during his life, which are duly listed on the title pages of his works.

Belonging to the Piedmontese nobility who possessed lands in the area of Villar, Bergera was appointed a knight of the order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus founded by the House of Savoy. He was first squire of the duchess of Chiablese Maria Anna of Savoy and captain of the regiment of guards of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

Bergera was also a member of several Italian and Piedmontese literary academies, where he presented his own poems and translations: the Accademia degli Immobili (in the position of adviser), the Società Filopatria (established in 1781), the Società Sanpaolina (1776-91), the Accademia degli Unanimi (1791-6, appointed honorary member under the name 'Il Franco'), and the Accademia degli Arcadi.

Bergera translated poetry and theatre pieces from French to Italian for his own pleasure.

Alongside famous authors such as Voltaire and Racine, he also focused his attention on minor figures of contemporary French literature.

In May 1783, Bergera's version of Adelaïde was performed at the Teatro dei Principi di Carignano in Turin and was praised by the public.
